Trying to figure out why a person does what they do, or behaves a certain way, is like brain candy to me.Tihttp://bookchatter.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6309803128000518121.post-39791525018973307832011-06-20T19:06:51.197-04:002011-06-20T19:06:51.197-04:00It seems that I like a lot of depressing books, to...It seems that I like a lot of depressing books, too, but you're right, the human condition is a very interesting thing to read about. I'm glad to hear this one isn't melodramatic because it could so easily take that turn. I'm intrigued because it's set in the White Mountains, and my family vacationed there every summer for many years when I was younger.Annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08046635675540466183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6309803128000518121.post-8749326357898493332011-06-20T16:27:53.235-04:002011-06-20T16:27:53.235-04:00Some books are pretty depressing, but life's t...Some books are pretty depressing, but life's that way at times too. This one sounds very emotional to me.bermudaonionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10726401178972099557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6309803128000518121.post-77857046909184305752011-06-20T12:10:50.933-04:002011-06-20T12:10:50.933-04:00I also like to read about the human condition and ...I also like to read about the human condition and the psychological factors that some with illness and rough circumstances, but lately I have fallen into a trap of reading some very heavy and depressing books. It's not usually a problem, as I can balance out what I am reading at times, but it seems like I have hit a spate of tough reading lately. It sounds like this book is rather powerful and involving, and I can't imagine what life would be like if I knew I only had a limited time to live, and that time was ticking away every minute. And the one character taking up smoking...that's just bad news right there! I am sorry to hear that you felt a little disconnected from the story though. Sometimes tales with heightened emotion have a way of pushing the reader away at times. This was a spectacular review.
