Bob's probably dreaming about the JETS game later on today. He's a big football fan. It's one of his favorite things about the Fall season! He's a little upset because his favorite jersey doesn't fit him anymore! Bob has become Bigger Sexy Bob. I think the Vet will probably want us to put him on a diet. Oy!
I hit a bit of a reading slump this week. I hate when this happens...and I'm in the midst of reading some good books. It was liked I suddenly had very little interest in anything I was reading or in reading at all! I think I was more concerned about the medical procedure I was scheduled to have on Tuesday. It was canceled because the machines the hospitals uses weren't working. It sounds strange since it's a major hospital! Maybe it's something like a computer glitch. So, now the procedure is scheduled for October 25th. I have a lot of other things on my mind, too. Maybe that's that problem. I have to figure out how to empty my brain!
I'm still reading The Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh as part of Erin Reads Reading Buddies project. It's an interesting and very well written book. There are several different story lines involving a large number of characters. I am having difficulty connecting with the characters. I noticed that when I hit the midpoint of the book or just after, the characters stories and their personalities seemed to open up more. Hopefully when I'm able to pull myself out of this reading slump The Sea of Poppies will prove very readable. The True Memoirs of Little K by Adrienne Sharp, for the Book Club run by Jen of Devourer of Books and Nicole of Linus' Blanket, is very good. Little K is a passionate, very opinionated and obsessive character. She's lot of fun!
Today I'm trying to finish two books The Grief of Others by Leah Hager Cohen which is a very good book about a family dealing with a shared tragedy as well as their individual issues. Finally, I'm reluctant to finish The Radleys by Matt Haig because I'm enjoying it so much but there's only so long you delay the inevitable! Maybe these books will help me conquer my reading slump today!
What are you reading today?
Everybody else, have a great Sunday! Happy Reading!
We listened to the audio of Sea of Poppies on a long road trip and enjoyed it very much. This was after I had given up trying to read the book. The reader of the audio is excellent and his various accents, British and Indian, made the audio very entertaining and interesting.
ReplyDeleteAmy, Bob needs to move over LOL
ReplyDeleteMaybe you need a light read right now? That generally helps me when I have a lot on my mind.
Hope you are able to have a stress free and relaxing week Amy
Haha, I'm having fun picturing Bob. He sounds so goofy and, well, cat-like.
ReplyDeleteI love football! I'm a Bengals fan, but I lived in New York state for a while and will root for the Jets as long as they're not playing my (terrible) team. There are very few things I enjoy more in the fall than watching a football game and knitting.
I'm sorry to hear about your reading slump! I hope it picks up soon. I can say I got within the last 75 pages or so of Sea of Poppies last night and had to stay up to finish. The momentum, which seemed so slow to build through most of the book, really started building at the end. I'm looking forward to discussing the rest of the book with everyone!
Hmm, I'm mostly watching football today, but I did start The Trembling of A Leaf by Maugham for my book group's October meeting! Have a great day, Amy :-)
I love me some football! Of course, my team, the Packers, already put the smackdown on the Bears. I love when that happens!
ReplyDeleteI need to start THE TRUE MEMOIRS OF LITTLE K. I don't think that I will finish it before Tuesday, but I can at least start it! I did finish THE GRIEF OF OTHERS today, in time for a blog tour on Tuesday. It was interesting. I need to digest it for a while before I write my review. I will be curious to see what you think of it!
It is hard to read when you have things like that on your mind. Having that procedure postponed would just drive me crazy.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you're in a little slump... how frustrating to have the procedure postponed! Hope you find a book that will pull you out if it soon. I mentioned in a comment on my blog that The House of the Seven Gables may not be the book to do that :-(
ReplyDeleteI have also had a hard time concentrating as I have a lot on my mind. It's irritating because reading is my biggest stress reliever, and when I am too stressed to read, I get really cranky. I hope that you are feeling better soon and that your procedure goes off without a hitch. I will be thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteI haven't hit a slump yet but I always do right before the time change.
ReplyDeleteThat Bob! What a card he is. My pup Chloe snores and has nightmares! I often wonder what she has nightmares about. She was only 6 months old when we rescued her. I always wake her from them and she always looks relieved.
Sounds like Bob wants to try his paw at blogging!!
ReplyDeleteHARVEE: I think the audio of Sea of Poppies is probably the better way to go. I like the book but parts are a little tiring and there is a lot of detail about thinks, such as ships, that I'm not very interested in as well as alot of language/dialects I don't completely understand. I am almost finished with the book and I think this last section is the best and I'm enjoying it a lot now!
ReplyDeleteAre you interested in the sequel that was recently published?
DIANE: I agree about Bob moving. I suggested it but, unfortunately, he didn't think much of my idea. And Bob's is a little too big for me to pick up and move! I am hoping he'll tire of thisd spot soon...he tends to rotate around the rooms, changine places every few weeks!
ReplyDeleteI think you're right about a lighter read and that's a good idea! Thank you!
ERIN: Bob is very entertaining and sweet! He's also very large!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy football in the Fall, too! I'm happy you are sometimes a Jets fan. The Jets can be an aggravating team but I love 'em! I'm sometimes a Packers fan (my dad grew up in Wisconsin!)
Knitting while watching football is a great idea. I used to knit. Maybe I should take it up again!?!
I'm almost finished with Sea of Poppies and I'm really enjoying the last section. I understand why you couldn't sleep before you finished the last 20 or so pages!
I haven't read the Maughm book you're reading now but I love some of his books. Enjoy The Trembling of A Leaf!
MICHELLE: The Packers are my second favorite team. My dad grew up in Wisconsin so we always followed Greenbay when I was growing up.
ReplyDeleteI have a few pages left of The True Memoirs of Little K which I liked. It was much more fiction than a lot of the historical fiction I read usually is but I liked. I don't think the narrator was very reliable although she was a lot of fun!
I completely missed my scheduled TLC review day for The Grief of Others...I thought it was tomorrow when it was Monday! Oops! I hope I can make it up and post it a different day!
TI: I think everything is getting to me last week and this week...the weather, new season, health stuff. But things are improving a little bit already!
ReplyDeleteBob is a hoot! I love him even when he drives me nuts!
Poor Chloe! SOme of my dogs growing up used to have nightmares...but Chloe is so young. Is she a nervous dog? You're such a good Mommy, Ti!
JENNERS: LOL I have found his back paw on the keyboard...I guess he's too lazy to get up and wants to blog lying down! Bob's a terrible speller, though!
ReplyDeleteJOANN: Thank you! I agree that The House of the Seven Gables is probably not going to help my slump. I think I'm going to try something light and some short stories and/or try to get into Into the Woods!
ReplyDeleteBERMUDAONION: I didn't like it at all. Fortunately it's rescheduled the end of October so for now it's not bothering me (as of 2 days ago! ) lol Hopefully I can find a book to completely distract me!
ReplyDeleteZIBILEE: I think it's the same for me! Books/reading are a stress reliever except when I get too stressed. I feel more relaxed now and hopefully can get myself into a better place so I don't stress alot when the end of Oct. comes. Thank you so much :o)
