Monday Musings!

I meant to post this yesterday, Sunday, but it just didn't happen! Saturday was a beautiful day here in NYC! A perfect summer day, warm with a breeze and NO humidity. Loved it! I had to spend some time outside. I went to a local outdoor flea market. There were several booths with interesting and cool jewelrys, a booth selling beautiful Sri Lankan handmade dark brown rattan bags with intricate beading design around the opening and lotsof t-shirts and many different booths with delicious food, such as Red Hook Lobster Rolls, BBQ, Grilled Cheese and yummy milk shakes. It was great fun and really interesting people watching! Of course there was a book booth (yay!)! Mostly fiction, a little non-fiction and all paperbacks. Since I have a large pile of to books to read, I managed to restrict myself to purchasing 3 books, but Oh Boy! was it tough to decide which 3! I went home with: Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters, The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde and Water Music by T.C. Boyle. I hope I get to them sooner rather than later!

The cats were thrilled with the weather this weekend. They were running inside, outside and back again, rolling on their backs in the grass, especially Betsy, Sadie, Bob and Huxley and playing with cat toys, bottle caps, pieces of grass and balls, lots of balls (Dopey and Hennessey prefer sitting on the windowsill and watch all the goings-on!). When finally exhausted, the cats collapsed in any bit of sun they could find. They are all so adorable and fun...funny too!

I wasn't getting much reading done for several weeks and definitely not as much posting or blog visiting as I'd like. I was in the hospital for a few days with pneumonia. When I got home, I slept a lot which shortened my day and my reading time, especially when 30 minutes into a book I was snoring away! I'm slowly getting back into the swing of blogging again! I feel like I've had a blog for a while but just when I felt really comfortable with it all, I had to step away from blogging for a few months. I'll catch up! I want to post, I want to visit other blogs, participate in read-a-longs, interview authors, offer giveaways ...there are so many great things to do around here! I'm way behind on reviews. I have a handful of almost completed reviews waiting for me to finish them. I'll probably just take a day and work on reviews and only reviews!

Infinite Jest, which I've beeen reading for little more than a week now, is great! It's a little odd but interesting and funny! The more I read, the better it gets! I think it's going to take me a long time to read it! I'm also reading
On Folly Beach by Karen White and hopefully Cleo by Helen Brown, I can't wait to read this book! I also hope to post reviews for Whiter Than Snow and my interview with Sandra Dallas too! I hope to post my reviews for Beth Kephart's The Heart is Not a Size and One Day by David Nicholls.

Have a great week!

  1. Glad you had the beautiful day -- sounds like the kitties really enjoyed it, too. We've had such a brutal summer -- making us all lethargic.
Sorry about your hospitalization -- but glad you are on the mend.
I've been falling asleep every time I pick up a book! Even when I'm enthralled! Right now I'm reading REMARKABLE CREATURES by Tracy Chevalier. I'm enjoying it.

  2. Going to a flea market on a cool day sounds like so much fun. It is still hot and muggy down here.

  3. Glad you are feeling better from your hospital stay. Rest easy and don't try to manage anything too strenuous.

I am also glad you were able to get outside and enjoy the sunny weather and flea market. I'm happy for you!

  4. I just won Infinite Jest in a giveaway and am a bit intimidated to read it. I'll be anxious to hear what you think about it. Glad you could enjoy a beautiful weekend outdoors.

  5. Hi Amy,

Saturday was gorgeous, we had about 100 birds on our lawn (must have been worms or grubs in the grass). Well, let me tell you our 4 cats kept window vigil all afternoon with their noses twitching...so funny.

Have a great week. Hope you are better after your hospital stay.

  6. I am glad you are feeling better and getting back into the groove of things. Sunday was a glorious day and the first time I have had my windows open in weeks. Sometimes I can manage to might multiple reviews in a day, but I find that so difficult to do. It seems that each review takes so much out of me.

  8. KathyA: It has been an unbelievably hot and humid summer. I don't like it! I think it makes many of us tired! Most days the cats lie around on the floor and sleep a lot! Thank you you! I feel better! I've heard good things about Remarkable Creatures and hope to read it! I'm glad you're enjoying it!

bermudaonion: The flea market was great on Saturday with the cooler weather. I've been when it's hot and humid and I still enjoy it but for a much shorter amount of time. And the muggy weather is back today. Blah! lol

  9. Purple Flowers: Thank you! I am feeling better but trying to take it easy and rest a lot! It's great to see you here. I will email you soon. The flea market is fun and not too big that it's overwhelming. I could browse for hours, of course!

  10. Kathleen: I am intimidated by Infinite Jest even while reading it. But it's a terrific book! Funny & intelligent, wacky...it takes a while to get used to Wallace's style of writing. It's going to be a while before I finish IJ bit I will let you know how it's going!

  11. Bibliophile by the Sea: Your cats must have been thrilled...and a little nuts! How funny to see them all at the windos at the same time! My cats wouldn't know what to do with themselves if they saw that many birds close by! One of my cats makes very strange noises when he sees birds outside, it's as if he loses control of himself a little bit!

  12. Nicole: It was wonderful to finally have the windows open, wasn't it? It's been quite a hot/humid summer. I admit I am glad when you write that your reviews take a lot out of you because I can very rarely write more than one review in a day. A review takes me a long time to write and a lot of thinking, editing, re-writing etc. Some books are easier than others, though! You've reassured me that I'm not alone! Thank you. I don't want to forget to mention that your reviews are wonderful, Nicole. I really enjoy them.

  13. JoAnn: Thank you so much! I'm happy to know you had a nice weekend, too and enjoyed the beautiful weather! I am feeling better and trying to remember to rest up a lot and take all my meds.! (I can be a terrible patient but I am working on being much better!)
    Enjoy your week!

  14. Glad you and the cats had such a beautiful day. Buddy used to love playing outside but not so much now. Sorry to hear you were in the hospital and so sick. I'm glad you're doing better now.

I used to love flea markets and used to traipse through a few of them on the weekends. Not so much now with the arthritis but it used to be fun checking all the stuff out.

Make sure you get lots of rest and continue to get better.

  15. Glad to see your health is improving along with the weather! I have Infinite Jest on my shelf, but the size always stops me from opening it! Glad to see that you're liking it.
