A Relaxing Sunday with Cats & Books!

Addie & JoJo

I'm trying to get back into reading, blogging and life in general. Losing two cats I loved has taken its toll and I'm finding it a little tough to bounce back quickly. But I'm finally feeling better overall. I watch the other cats and, although they notice Gustave and Betsy are no longer here, after a couple of days being a little more cuddly, looking for a little extra attention and sleeping a little closer to me and/or other cats they like, life resumes as usual for them. It's back to sleeping, eating, playing and exploring. Bob was buddies with Gustave and so was JoJo. Now JoJo and Addie are becoming fast friends and Bob and Lola are playing a lot. I am really happy to see this since Betsy, who died a few months ago was Lola's mother. Lola was a little lost without Betsy but she's bouncing back. Bob is quite large, as some of you have seen in pictures I posted, and Lola is a small, thin cat. It's very funny watching her play with Bob because she runs at him and jumps on him when he doesn't expect it! And she's fast with her paws, poor Bob doesn't stand a chance. But Lola licks him after she beats him up a bit!

I've started writing essays and stories about all of the cats who have passed through here, whether they stayed and made a home with me or moved on to live with someone else or, sadly, passed on. I don't want to forget any of them. And they are all so unique in appearance and personality.

I haven't been as focused on reading, although the last few days I have been able to concentrate more. I'm reading Picking Bones from Ash by Marie Mutsuki Mockett for Jen of Devourer of Books book club and The Beauty of Humanity Movement by Camilla Gibb as well as and ARC of Jodi Picoult's Sing You Home. I have a terrible habit of reading too many books at one time!

Enjoy your Sunday! Happy Reading!

  1. Sorry to hear about the cats. It's always so hard to lose the animals we love. Hopefully a book will create a nice escape.

  2. I can imagine how hard it is to lose (2) cats so close together. I still miss ours who passed several years ago...somedays it really seems to hit you more.

  3. Ours seem to pass away in groups of two, and is more than my heart could handle almost. You have to grieve them like you do people, and I think writing about them is a perfect way.

  4. It's hard to focus on reading (or anything else) after a loss. Take your time - it'll happen soon.

  5. I lost two last year as well, and my heart was crushed. I still grieve over them at night, when they should be piled up beside me, letting me rub their bellies. It's very sad to lose them, so I know what kind of pain you are going through. Take it easy my friend.

  7. It's very interesting to me that when one of the cats dies -- the personalities of the rest of the 'pride' change. Good that you're so surrounded with all the love.

  8. I know all too well how hard it is to focus after losing a pet. Sometimes I still find it hard. Addie and JoJo are adorable though! They looks so tiny.

Enjoy your books. I look forward to your thoughts on Picking Ashes from Bones. It sounds like a good novel.

  10. It's hard when we lose our babies. I'm glad the other children are adapting and that things are getting back to normal. I think it's wonderful that you plan to write about each one. Take care.

  11. It's so hard when we lose our loved ones this way. Our pets are so important to us that it leaves a real vacuum when they pass. I'm glad you are all getting back to normal as best as you can under the circumstances.

  12. I remember when my cat Joey lost his good buddy Scout. He moped around for ages without her. He looked just like your Jo Jo.
