This is also the time of year when they Brooklyn Flea Market moves outside Saturday and Sunday. In fact, it happened this weekend. This year the flea market is going to be at a new spot on Sundays in Williamsburg on the water. I didn't go today but the when it gets a little warmer I want to check it out. I haven't been to Williamsburg much (sad since it's not far at all) so I'm looking forward to walking around, checking out the shops and spending some time at the flea market, especially the books section! But there are great jewelry and T-shirt vendors as well as art and music, too The Saturday spot is very close by, barely 10 minutes on the bus so I usually shop there. It's a small spot, smaller when it gets crowded and it's not on the water. I'm sure the Williamsburg spot will become very popular. A lobster & a milkshake sitting by the water sounds pretty good, uh?!
Next weekend I'm participating in Dewey's 24-hour Read-a-Thon. It was fun but exhausting last year! I have to remember pick out some books to read before Friday. Last time I realized smaller books are better because if you finish a book it feels like a good accomplishment! I hope if you haven't signed up yet, you will.
I finished The Raising ~ Laura Kasischke and I'm three-quarters of the way through Mr. Chartwell ~ Rebecca Hunt. I've just started Fury ~ Salman Rushdie and will start Galore ~ Michael Crummey by this week for Jen and Nicole's April Book Club later in the month. I think I'll probably start the ARC of Dreams of Joy ~ Lisa See, sequel to Shanghai Girls or Secret Daughter ~Shilpi Somaya Gowda. Love these kinds of decisions!
What are you reading today? Whatever book you choose, I hope you enjoy it!
The flea markets sound awesome...and you are definitely ready for Spring.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy your books this week.
Here's MY SUNDAY SALON POST
I am so happy that spring is here I can hardly stand it. I just wish the weather would settle down.
ReplyDeleteSpring has been here already for a long time, and now it actually feels like summer. But I feel for you guys...you have had one crappy winter. I'm doing the readathon as well, and I am totally excited. I have a small pile of books, but I keep adding and taking from the pile. The choice of books means everything to the success...great, short books! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSandy is right, it is almost 90 degrees here, and I am already furtively wishing for winter again. That outdoor market sounds fantastic, and I wish we had something similar here. Right now we all we have that's close is a crappy little farmer's market that has almost no vegetables! Lots of candles and soap though! I hope you have an awesome time participating in the readathon. I am going to have to miss it this time around, but I am wishing everyone the best!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to sunny days and warmer temps as well Amy. I think we agree winter was much to tough for us this year. Enjoy that milkshake and lobster.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the warmer and longer days, too... although warmer here means hitting 45 degrees! Hope you get to enjoy the flea market. It sounds like a great time. Didn't realize the sequel to Shanghai Girls was coming along - I really need to read SG before too much longer. Have a great week, Amy!
ReplyDeleteThe flea market sounds like a lot of fun! The local Saturday Markets open in three weeks and I can't wait! Fresh baked bread and cute crocheted hats are tops on my list for the market. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to the read-a-thon this weekend! Yes, short books are the key to a successful 'thon :) I've learned that the hard way.
ReplyDeleteThat market sounds really neat -- and lobster and a milkshake in an alley sound good!!
ReplyDeleteA lobster and a milkshake by the water? Now you're making me even more sad that I'm not going to get to NYC again this year! NEXT YEAR I am coming to BEA and you are taking me to the flea market!
