Coffee hour!

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

This well known quote, attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882) is one of my favorites. I think of it often especially when life gets a little trying!

  1. How well said... Thank you for quoting this!

  2. Hi Amy! Thanks for popping by! My beloved "sister" has six felines and and equine:)
    The quote you posted is a fave and one I give to all graduates in my life. Love and hugs to you! Happy weekend!

  3. I love Emerson and Thoreau, too. My favorite quote from T is "For it matters not how small the beginning may seem to be, what is once well done is done forever."

  4. Oooohww yes!! I love Emerson.And how much I enjoy reading your comments!!! And yes, yes, yes your husband is right you should read the Bill Bryson book asap. It's soooo much fun. I've never heard of him before, but I think I need to buy more of his books. So put away the one you're reading right now - well, it depends on what you're reading, but anyway....listen to you husband and me - LOL -
    Have a nice weekend Mary, Carmie.
