Book Blogger Appreciation Week, Day One: Community!

Today is Day One: Community of the Book Blogger Appreciation Week 2011. This year's theme is "Cultivating a Community of Bloggers and Readers". Many bloggers are highlighting some of their favorite blogs and bloggers today. Honestly, I wouldn't know where to begin! And since the day got away from me, not an uncommon occurrence for me, I'm going to simply say a few words about how great is BBAW and the book blogging community.

There are so many blogs and bloggers whose posts and opinions I enjoy reading as often as I can. Some I have only discovered in the last few months or only since the beginning of the year, others I have known almost since day one of my blog. It doesn't matter, though, because all of the blogs I've discovered so far and enjoy matter to me to the point that it truly bothers me the days I don't have a chance to visit them. There are a lot of those days because every year my list of blogs grows! I'm not able to get out much and I don't know too many people in real life who love books as I do and love to discuss them so discovering the book blogging community was, for me, like discovering a new amazing world.  Book bloggers have influenced how I read, what I read and how I think about what I read in such wonderfully positive and focused ways and continue to do so and for that I am tremendously grateful!

Amy (great name, right?!) of the blog, My Friend Amy hit on the brilliant idea of BBAW "to recognize the hard work and contribution of book bloggers to the promotion and preservation of a literate culture actively engaged in discussing books, authors, and a lifestyle of reading." I think we owe her a debt of gratitude since BBAW week is one of the most enjoyable, unifying and community building weeks for the book blogging community. It's an opportunity to discover bloggers we haven't had the chance to get to know, visit their blogs, celebrate the blogs we love and learn more about the bloggers behind the wonderful book blogs we love.

Thank you Amy! and thank you to all of the bloggers in the book blogging community, especially the bloggers who visit my blog, those whose blogs I visit and the ones I have yet to discover!
