A tribute to Daisy

These pictures are of my cat, Daisy. I am very sad to have to say that beautiful Daisy died tonight. She's had a cold for a few days and hasn't been eating much so we scheduled an appointment for her to go to the veterinarian on Thursday. But this evening Daisy took a sudden turn for the worse. We took Daisy to the Emergency Vet at 1:30 am and she died there this morning.

Daisy lived with my husband and I for about 4 years and was an older cat. One day, this beautiful, furry and friendly cat appeared in our driveway and never left! We discovered that she was a Norwegian Forest Cat, our first ever of that breed and a stunning one. Daisy was sweet, loving, relaxed and so easy-going. Daisy probably would have liked a home where she was the one and only Cat but she never gave the other cats a hard time. Somehow our other cats knew to be respectful of Daisy, that she was the feline matriarch. Not one of all our other cats harassed Daisy. They all knew she was special. Daisy loved to rotate her sleeping spot every week. We never knew when she'd change or where she'd end up but she always tried out different areas in our home to sleep. Sam and I could always count on Daisy to be with us wherever we were, whatever we were doing. She followed us outside and sat with us on the deck or while we "gardened". She loved to watch football or a good movie. But mealtimes, especially dinner, were her favorite!

Daisy loved my husband and followed him everywhere. When we first moved to our current address, Sam walked down the block and around the corner to the bus every morning. Daisy used to leave with Sam and walk him to the bus. She would wait for him to get on the bus, too!She was a wonderful cat and a joy to have in our home. We were blessed to have known Daisy and shared her life. She will be missed terribly.

  1. I am sorry for your loss-we lost one of our 17 year old Siamese about 9 months ago-his brother is still with us along with a cat my daughters found in a parking lot at age about 6 weeks. He is about 1.5 years old now.

  5. Oh, Amy, I'm so sorry to hear that. We lost our 18 year old calico last year and I was heartbroken. Daisy was a lucky cat to have such special people love and care for her.

    Take care, my friend.

  9. Amy: I am so sorry to hear about Daisy. I have lost so many pets and it is hell to go through...even though they are sick, and you know that they are not suffering any longer, it still hurts.
My prayers go out to you and your hubby, and your other kitties, as I am sure they will grieve for her as well.
    Big Hugs....Missy

  10. I lost my one and only childhood cat (well the aeroplane lost her) and never cared to replace her.

They are sweet and individual creatures. God bless you for having taken care of her while she was with you and apparently very happy. Peace, xxx.

  28. Thank you so very much Esme, Lisa, avisannschild, Ti, KathyA, gaby317, The Bumbles, Hazra, Nicole, Andi, Charisse and Holly, Stephanie, Sweet Virginia Breeze, Bashful Toast, Vivienne, Michelle, Clarity, RaoulysGirl, Missy Pesky Cat Designs, Caite, Purple Flowers, Caite and mel u to all of you for stopping by and honoring me and Daisy with your kind words. It's been difficult to be around our home the last two days because Daisy isn't sitting in the kitchen waiting to be fed or sitting watching TV with us or stretched out on the floor in a patch of sunlight or sitting in the window sunning herself or following Sam around outside. Daisy was so much a part of our home life that I feel her passing more everyday.

This morning I found a large stack of pictures of all of our cats that I forgot to download to the internet. There are several of Daisy when her fur was thick & shiny before old age set in and she started to lose some of it. She was always a beautiful cat and her eyes were bright and sniny to the end. Sam and I talked about her a lot and cried but also laughed. And then I was able to come here and read all of your kind words.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring enough to stop and share your thought and offer support. It means so much to me.
    ~Amy

  29. Awww, that's so sad. I am sorry to hear that she passed away but her story though is heartwarming and you know that for at least four years she had a good life. There are a lot of similarities between Daisy and our Sushi. She also just appeared at our doorway one day last year and just stayed with us, she is also a matriarchal feline and she absolutely adores my husband. he cannot sit down for a minute before she's right on his chest giving him kisses and stuff.

  30. She was such a gorgeous kitty! And she sounds like she was very sweet as well. I'm so sorry for your loss. They become every bit as much a part of your life as a person does, sometimes more because they don't judge or forgive much more easily (well, except for our MacKayla who does seem to hold a grudge for quite some time :-) But losing them is impossibly hard I know.

  31. Oh Amy, I'm so sorry for your loss! You're the second person today who I've read that lost their dear cat. Daisy was beautiful! She was very lucky to have you in her life and obviously you feel very blessed to have had her in yours. I treasure my pets too and losing them breaks my heart. I hope the days get easier for you.
